(사)국가무형유산 진주검무보존회는 국가무형유산인 진주검무를 보존하고 전승하기 위해 1967년 1월 16일 인정받은 전통문화 예술단체이다. 진주검무는 우리나라 교방 예술의 백미인 의암별제에 헌무로 봉헌되는 것을 비롯해 문화예술 도시 진주가 유네스코 공예 및 민속예술 도시로 지정되는데 상징적인 콘텐츠로 큰 역할을 하였다. 현재 유영희, 김태연 예능보유자를 중심으로 보전과 전승을 해오고 있다.
Jinju Geommu (Sword Dance of Jinju) Preservation Association for National Intangible Cultural Heritage, officially recognized on January 16, 1967, is a traditional cultural arts organization dedicated to safeguarding and transmitting Jinju Sword Dance. As a pinnacle of Korean Gyobang (institutional performing arts) arts, this dance holds great significance, historically being offered as a ritual dance during Uiam Byeolje. It also served as a symbolic cultural cornerstone that helped Jinju achieve its designation as a UNESCO City of Crafts and Folk Art. Today, the association's preservation and transmission efforts are proudly led by Holders Yu Young-hee and Kim Tae-yeon.

공연 소개 ｜ Performance Introduction
진주검무
진주검무는 진주 지방에 전해 내려오는 여성 칼춤이다. 정확한 유래는 알 수 없으나, 현재의 진주검무는 진주 교방¹ 출신의 최순이가 고종 때 궁중 무희로 활동하다가 고향으로 돌아와 진주의 예기들에게 전승한 것이다. 8명이 검무를 추었기 때문에 ‘진주 팔검무’라고도 한다. 1967년에 국가무형유산으로 지정되었다. 진주검무는 박, 좌고, 장구, 피리, 대금, 해금 등의 장단에 맞추어 느린염불타령, 빠른타령으로 진행된다. 검무를 출 때는 궁녀의 평상복에 전복²과 전립³을 착용하고, 손목에는 색동 한삼⁴을 낀다. 진주검무의 춤사위에는 한삼평사위, 배맞추기, 숙인사위, 옴칠사위, 한삼뿌릴사위, 쌍으로 어르기, 한삼결삼·낙삼사위, 맨손입춤, 깍지떼기, 맨손칼사위, 자락사위, 앉은칼사위, 위엄사위, 뛸사위, 삼진삼퇴, 연풍대가 있다. 진주검무는 궁중의 잔치에서 추었던 검무의 원형을 보존하고 있다. 다양한 춤 동작, 활기가 있으면서도 우아한 춤사위는 우리나라 칼춤 연구에 중요한 자료가 된다.
1)교방(敎坊): 고려, 조선시대에 걸쳐 악(樂)을 담당하던 기구
2)전복(戰服): 조선시대 관복과 군복에 입는 소매 없는 옷
3)전립(戰笠): 조선시대 무관이 쓰던 모자
4)한삼(汗衫): 윗옷 소매 끝에 헝겊으로 덧대는 소매

It has a long history, having evolved from the court to the local level and becoming a form of folk dance, traditionally performed as a tribute during various patriotic events. The dance begins with the use of Hansam (long sleeves), starts with basic movements, and progresses to more complex sword dance movements. Unlike other sword dances, it features an unbending sword and is characterized by its unique rhythmic structure and a variety of dance movements.
