국가 무형유산으로 1980년 11월 17일 지정된 제주 칠머리당 영등굿은 1986년 11월 1일 보존 단체가 인정되어 매년 공개 시연(영등 송별제)을 하고 있다. 이 굿은 해마다 음력 2월 초하루와 열나흘날 사이에 제주도 해안가 마을의 본향당에서 바람의 신인 영등신을 맞이하여 풍어와 해상 안전 등 해녀들의 풍성을 기원하는 굿이다. 또한, 제주 칠머리당 영등굿은 2009년에 세계인류무형문화유산으로 등재되었며, 보존회 단체는 2017년에 비영리 사단법인으로 변경하고, 전승 교육사, 이수자 등 20명의 보존회 회원들이 칠머리당영등굿을 전승 보전하고 있다.

Jeju Chilmeoridang Yeongdeunggut, which was designated as a national intangible heritage on November 17, 1980, was officially recognized as a preservation organization on November 1, 1986, and holds an annual public demonstration (Yeongdeung Songbyeolje). This gut is performed every year between the 1st and the 14th of February on the lunar calendar at the Bonhyangdang in coastal villages of Jeju Island. It welcomes Yeongdeungsin, the god of the wind, to pray for the safety and abundant catches of haenyeo. In addition, Jeju Chilmeoridang Yeongdeunggut was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009. The preservation group was changed to a non-profit corporation in 2017, and 20 members of the preservation group, including Instructors for Successor Training and Trainees, continue to pass down and preserve the Jeju Chilmeoridang Yeongdeunggut.

공연 소개 ｜ Performance Introduction

요왕맞이

이번 공연은 영등굿 중, 요왕맞이(요왕질침)를 중심으로 한 제차이다. 요왕질침은 용왕신이 오가는 길을 치우고 닦아, 문을 여는 제차이다. 제주 칠머리당 영등굿의 질침은 신을 보내기 위하여 그 떠나는 길을 치우고 닦는 것으로 이해하고 있다. 댓가지를 양쪽에 나란히 세워 요왕질을 만든다. 심방은 그 사이를 수차례 오가며 길을 돌아보고(요왕질 돌아봄), 이어 길을 치우고 닦는 모양을 한 뒤에, 흰 천을 깔게 한다(요왕질침). 댓가지 끝을 묶어두었다가 하나씩 풀고 풀어낸 댓가지는 뽑아낸다(요왕문 열림). 이렇게 함으로써 문이 열리는 것을 보여주는 것이다.

Yowangmaji > yowangjilchim : Cleansing the path for the Dragon King and the goddess Yeongdeung

The Yowangjilchim is a ceremony to cleanse the path for the Dragon King and open the gate. The Chilmeoridang Yeongdeunggut's jilchim is understood as cleansing the path that the god walks when departing to send them off. The Yowangjil is made by lining branches of bamboo on both sides of the path. A Simbang examines the path while walking over it several times. After making gestures of cleansing the path, a white cloth is spread upon it then in order to describe the gate as being opened, the Simbang unties the knotted tips of the branches and pulls the untied branches.
